The Botox treatment for wrinkles
Botox is most commonly administered for the treatment of upper face wrinkles and lines including forehead lines, frown lines, lines between the eyebrows and around the corners of the eyes. The Botox treatment procedure is simple and safe, if conducted by qualified, trained and experienced practitioner. Little amount of Botulinum toxin is diluted with the saline (sodium chloride) and is then carefully injected into the target muscle. It usually takes about 24-72 hours for the toxin to show its effect. This is the time which is required by the toxin to disrupt the transmission of neurotransmitters to the target muscle. In some rare cases, the toxin may take up to 5 days to take full effect.
Botox acts by inhibiting the release of neurotransmitters from the nerve endings. It blocks the communication between the muscle and the nerves. This stops the activity of the target muscle which stops contracting and relaxes. Due to the reduction in the muscle activity, the surface skin become smooth and wrinkle free. These effects of Botox anti-wrinkle treatment lasts for about 3-6 months.
